Rocking Horse Plans Build Continued Day 3
Managed to get a couple of hours working on the rocking horse build today, as you can see the parts for the first rocking horse have been finished ready for assembly. I used the belt sander on the body to ensure it is smooth where I joined the boards together. Then I used a small router bit to round off the edges, you don’t have to use a router you can just file and sand the edges to make them smooth. After routing the edges I used my mouse sander with 240 grit to get it all smooth, then finally sanded it all by hand using aluminium oxide paper ( I find it stays clog free longer than regular sandpaper).
Here’s my router with the corner round bit. If you use a router get a bit with a bearing like the one below it makes it so much easier as you just slide the router round the edges and it gives a consistent cut. When you do the rocking horse body make sure you don’t route the edge where the seat fits, you want a square edge there.
This is my mouse sander, worth its weight in gold and from memory only cost about $20. It takes velcro backed sandpaper.
Oh and before I forget, whether you are routing and sanding or just sanding make sure you keep the top inside edge of the rocking horse rockers square for now, you’ll see why later.
Both sets of parts have now been finished and ready for assembly, if I get time tomorrow I’ll start glueing the parts together.
